From Michigan........to Alaska |
View Drive to Alaska in a larger map I am preparing to hit the road on June 1st 2013 and start an adventure I have only dreamed of doing. The plan as it stands right now is to head north and west across Michigan into Wisconsin and then on to Minnesota. From Minnesota I will head north into Canada and follow the setting sun west. My destination is Cantwell Alaska and I want to be there before June 13th 2013. I will spend several weeks house/dog sitting in Broad Pass south of Cantwell. After my stay there I will be heading up to Denali National Park and visit with a friend at Wonder Lake. A couple of weeks in Denali and it's time to catch a flight out to Bethel Alaska to visit my daughter. Depending on the time frame I hope to visit some birding areas of the Yukon Delta Wildlife Refuge. After family time there I will start heading back to Michigan. That will be by following my cookie crumbs back through Canada and into Michigan. Along the return trip I want to visit some of Canada's great national parks. For me this will be a trip of a lifetime and I hope to be able to share it with you on this page. So check back often for updates. I will be posting both here and on my blog page as much as I can and as often as I have internet access. Gary O'Boyle |
Day one and I made a good start of it. Left Flushing Michigan and drove 568 miles to Ashland Wisconsin. Tomorrow I hope to be west of Winnipeg Manitoda. Didn't stop for many pictures as it was raining off and on all day. I'm good with that as I want to get to the mountains in the west! This will be a short post....I'm calling it a day!

Day two and three saw me make my way from Minnesota into Manitoba Canada and now I am in Vermilion Alberta. Driving through the beautiful prairielands of Canada I was able to see countless ducks and waterbirds playing in the many pothole lakes and ponds. Late today the land start to change and it became more rolling. It is also more forested. I passed through a large flock of White Pelicans along the way. I came on them too quick for a photo though. I will watch for them on the return trip. I also was able to watch a Red Fox hunting early this morning. My bird and animal count is starting to climb. I will post a list once I am more rested.
